Orchard Road brightens up once again for the annual Christmas Light Up event. And for 2018, the Orchard Road Business Association (ORBA) partners with Walt Disney Co. to create the biggest Christmas festival of lights in Singapore and the region.
With big names such as Disney and Pixar joining this year, the festival hasn’t started without the scrutiny of the National Council of Singapore Churches. The council has expressed concern over the extreme commercialization of Christmas over the years. And this year, the organizers set the bar even higher. While the churches probably expected nativity scenes and baby Jesus images scattered along Orchard Road; they saw Elsa, Olaf, Mickey Mouse, and Sheriff Woody’s smiling faces instead.
